BBD Coaching Staff
We have a large and experienced coaching staff at BBD. All coaches have been
screened and received professional development in dealing with children
appropriately. In addition, in order to work in a YMCA/US program a coach
must hold current certifications in lifeguarding, coaches’ safety, and CPR.
First-year coaches must complete the YMCA Principles of Coaching class.
Second-year coaches must have completed the Level 1 Certification of the
American Swim Coaches Association. ASCA Certification ranges from Level 1 to
Level 5 and represents a combination of education and achievement. Kevin is
a Level 4 Coach and several other coaches have achieved advanced levels.
Meet the BBD Coaching Staff for 2011-2012
The
Birmingham (YMCA) Blue Dolphins began well over thirty years ago with
parent-volunteer coaches in public school pools in
Birmingham.
In 1968, the YMCA built a pool which gave the team a home. As the team evolved a
coach was hired and the team began to grow into the powerhouse it is today.
The team
has achieved a size which allows it to conduct its workouts by age groups
assuring that each swimmer has his/her developmental needs addressed under the
guidance of experienced coaches. The coaching staff is made up of new and
seasoned coaches, many of whom were BBD swimmers themselves.
