The
Birmingham (YMCA) Blue Dolphins began well over thirty years ago with
parent-volunteer coaches in public school pools in
Birmingham.
In 1968, the YMCA built a pool which gave the team a home. As the team evolved a
coach was hired and the team began to grow into the powerhouse it is today.
The team
has achieved a size which allows it to conduct its workouts by age groups
assuring that each swimmer has his/her developmental needs addressed under the
guidance of experienced coaches. The coaching staff is made up of new and
seasoned coaches, many of whom were BBD swimmers themselves.

Alex Zucco
(alexzucco@gmail.com)
Alex is coming into his second season at BBD.
Last year, Alex balanced coaching with his first year at Wayne State
University Law School, which ended up being a blessing in disguise since BBD
gave him a welcomed distraction from that infamous first year of legal
studies. Alex previously graduated from MSU, where he played water polo for
two seasons. Individually, he was named as an Academic All-Big Ten
performer, and team-wise, he helped the Spartans win the 2005 Big Ten
Championship and battle on all the way to a 2nd place finish at the College
Water Polo Association National Championship. He started swimming at the age
of six for the Forest Hills Water Hogs, swimming there from 1993 to 2005,
and also spent time on BBD from 1992 to 2000. Currently, Alex juggles a busy
schedule between studying for law school, coaching for BBD, working
part-time as a clerk at Oakland County Circuit Court, and spending time with
his family and girlfriend. Alex hopes to get a summer associate job with a
metro-Detroit area law firm next summer and work towards a successful career
specializing in transactions, real estate, turn-around, and business
planning. |
