Registration is now closed for all age groups.

New BBD Registration Process  Updated 9/12/09
Step 1
Create on on-line account by following the registration link below. Complete all registration information and pay your BBD Boosters activity/processing fee ($65) and USS registration fee ($54) on-line. You can pay with credit card, debit card or electronic check. This account will be automatically drafted for all your meet entry fees. You will receive a confirmation email as soon as you complete your on-line account.  Print this email.

Step 2:  Bring the copy of your on-line account confirmation email to the Birmingham YMCA to pay your YMCA membership and BBD Program Fees. You can print and complete the following registration form to expedite the registration process at the YMCA.  Be sure to include the on-line account confirmation email, the YMCA registration form and payment. You are not guaranteed a spot on the team until you have completed your registration with the YMCA.

BBD Financial Requirements

In order to compete, a YMCA swimmer must have a current YMCA membership.  Different types of memberships are available, including family memberships.  The fees for these memberships are separate from the team fees associated with BBD.  Various methods of payment are available.  The BBD team fee primarily covers salaries of the coaching staff and outside pool facility rental.  It also helps to offset the costs incurred relating to the weekly BBD newsletter, yearbook, administrative assistance, as well as all entries for YMCA dual and championship meets. For membership information, call the Birmingham Family YMCA at 248-644-9036 or visit YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit - Birmingham Family YMCA.

To operate successfully, BBD must gather funds from other sources as well.  Dual meets, YMCA/USA invitational and championship meets and Booster donations help to support the program.  Parent participation is vital to the success of each of these avenues.  Swimmers qualifying for our National Team also participate in various fundraising activities coordinated by a parent volunteer.  In addition, an activity fee ($50.00) is required from each swimmer upon registration to defray the cost of after practice snacks and various social activities organized by the age group parents.

This additional income is often used to supplement equipment needs (computer, pool practice aids, etc.) .  A portion of these funds also provides for incentives for the swimmers and coaching staff, social events and defraying a portion of costs related to the National Team.  A donation to the YMCA's Partners' Campaign (to be used at the Birmingham YMCA) is also made through these funds.

As you can see, the expenses of running a large successful program are extensive and varied.  Some additional expenses you can expect to incur during the season will include:  competitive swimsuits (swimmers are required to purchase a BBD team suit, which should be reserved for competition using separate suits for practice), swim goggles (you may want to purchase many pairs), swim caps (only swim caps with the BBD logo may be worn during competition), miscellaneous travel expenses, and entry fees for USA meets and YMCA invitational meets.
